The valet parked my car. I appreciated the fact King had hit me up, inviting me to his birthday celebration. I was positive Imani would be here, since Lee and Nina were her best friends.

Before King had contacted me, I was already coming because of the ultrasound appointment.

I hadn’t seen Imani since last month. I was ready to see her again. It had been a long few weeks of being without her. It had seemed even longer once I decided she was going to be mine.

Royal and I walked through the door, dapping up people as we walked past. Our new security followed a few steps behind us.

Royal was still pissed at me for firing his friends, but I didn’t care. I was his big brother. It was my responsibility to look after his hardheaded ass. He was worth too much money to be in some hood mess.

Both of us had licenses to carry, and we stayed using our permits. It was another reason he had to get away from his goofy friends. They didn’t understand getting in the system kept them from making all the actions they needed to be legit in the real world. Once you were on the police’s radar, they never let you step in peace.

Back in the day, I made my easy money and used it to purchase my recording studio and immediately started producing music and helping Royal pursue his dreams.

He couldn’t surround himself with clowns and think he wouldn’t get caught up in their clown show.

“Imani know that you’re coming here?” he asked beside me as I searched around the club, struggling to put eyes on Imani.

“No, I didn’t tell her. King or Lee could have mentioned it to her. I don’t know. You know she doesn’t fuck with me like that anymore.”

In reality, Imani refusing to deal with me if I was messing with other women, was sexy too. No man wanted a woman he could walk all over. If she were willing to take shit off a man, she wasn’t strong enough to resist the next man.

I liked the woman I was dealing with to have self-respect. Women were too pretty to deal with the chaos that they dealt with.

I finally spotted her sitting at a table with Lee, Nina, and some other nigga, who was smiling all in her face. She was sipping some red drink while rocking her shoulders to Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak, and “Silk Sonic”.

I wasn’t even going to pretend. The new joint Leave the Door Open, was a banger. As a music connoisseur, I applauded his creativity. His new shit was being played on every single radio, multiple times an hour. As much as I loved that shit too, I didn’t want her dancing and singing the shit in some nigga’s face.

My eyes narrowed. I didn’t know who this nigga was, but I needed him to back up off Imani. I didn’t care if we were together or not. She was the mother of my child, and there was no way she was going to be sleeping with another man while carrying my seed.
